We are seeking a compassionate and patient mentor to support a 15-year-old girl in Dearborn, Michigan, who is navigating major depression, working on social skills, and coping with grief and loss. The ideal candidate will have a background in mental health, youth support, or a desire to help young people build coping strategies and social confidence.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide emotional support and a safe space for the teen to express herself and work through difficult emotions.
Help her develop social skills, self-esteem, and confidence through positive and supportive interactions.
Assist with coping techniques for grief, loss, and managing depression.
Engage in age-appropriate activities that promote emotional well-being and healthy social interactions.
Be a trusted mentor who listens, encourages, and helps her set and achieve small personal goals.
Offer guidance on building positive relationships with peers and managing stress.
Requirements:
Must be 18 years or older with a genuine interest in supporting youth through challenging emotions and life experiences.
Previous experience working with teens or in mental health, counseling, or social services is a plus but not required.
Must be patient, empathetic, and understanding of sensitive emotional topics.
Strong communication skills and the ability to create a non-judgmental and supportive environment.
Availability for after-school hours, including some evenings.
Ability to pass a background check and undergo paid training to ensure you are prepared to support the teen effectively.
